Product Description

The Stranger on the Road to Emmaus gives a solid overview of the main message of the Bible. It ties together key Old and New Testament stories to reveal the identity of God and the nature of sin, all the time answering two questions: “Who is Jesus?” and “What is the story of the cross and the tomb all about?” It helps a person understand clearly what is the main message of Bible.

“The Bible makes so much sense now!”

This book is ideal for people who come from a Christianized background, whether Catholic, Protestant or Orthodox. It assumes readers have a concept of only one God who is a person—not a force.

  • Written for adults and teens: Understood by children as young as 10, but written for adults and teens.
  • Assumptions: Assumes that when readers think of God, they think of only one God, and that God is a person, not a force. No other Bible knowledge is assumed.
  • Christianized worldview: Ideal for readers who come from a background influenced by Christianity, whether Catholic, Protestant or Orthodox.
  • Based on the gospel of John: Uses the gospel of John as a template; at the same time, provides necessary background stories to give the gospel context. It assumes the reader knows very little, if anything, about the Bible.
  • Chronological: Begins with the creation of the universe, and then progressing sequentially through key Old Testament stories, it moves into the New Testament to reveal the meaning of the cross and the tomb. The main story of the Bible is tied together into one universal, all-encompassing drama.
  • Peels religious tradition off the Bible: Readers are introduced to the Bible without the trappings of religion.
  • Objective: The Bible is allowed to speak for itself in presenting the good news of the Lord Jesus Christ. There is no arm-twisting to believe. The message is presented objectively; the decision to believe or not to believe is left to the reader.
  • Bible verses: Told as a story, 1177 Bible verses are woven throughout the text. The reader engages with the text of the Bible for himself.
  • Illustrated: Over 100 drawings, maps and diagrams help explain the story.
  • Designed to giveaway: The book can be passed on like a gospel tract. Readers can then learn the Bible's message on their own.
  • Designed to use in a course: This resource can be used as the student’s book in a Bible study. (Learn more about The Worldview Rethink Course.)

  1. Take a Walk with the Messiah 5 Star Review

    Posted by on 10/26/2017

If Jesus revealed the Father's plan to restore men to Himself today in simple language with the use of visual aides which fit into a book, this is the tool. I have used this book to introduce unbelievers and new believers to the Word of God and several have come to believe in Messiah's redemptive work on the cross. Praise God for John Cross' simple approach used to explain the Bible and thank You Holy Spirit for all You accomplish in the hearts of those who read and study this book.

  2. The Gold Standard for explaining the Biblical message 5 Star Review

    Posted by on 08/07/2017

I've been exposed to Goodseed's material now for over 15 years. When someone first approached me to take me through The Stranger, I had no idea what the book was about , except that it helped explain the Bible. I was not a believer at the time, but thought I was. As I grew in Biblical knowledge, and discernment, I was able to step back and objectively evaluate this book. I thank God frequently for bringing the person into my life who had this book in their hand when they explained the message of the Bible to me. The Stranger, I tell people is not a substitute for the Bible, no book is, but it remains for me the best resource to guide you through it.

  3. An awesome summary of big concepts of the Bible 5 Star Review

I have been teaching and giving away this book for many years to seekers and new believers and youth in Placer County Juvenile Hall where I have been the head chaplain for 26 years. I have always loved this book but I like the current version the best: it is shorter and stays closer to the chronology of scripture. It is a true blessing to everyone who reads it!

  4. perfect teaching tool 5 Star Review

We were missionaries in the Philippines from 1973-1986. During that time teaching chronologically through the Bible became "the Way to Teach". We used the large pictures to illustrate.
I have used "the Stranger" in teaching in the USA. I have given it as gifts in the German language to my friends and relatives. This year we are giving the Stranger to my husband's cousins, praying that they will gain a fuller understanding and become believers.
Like my husband told someone recently, it's the only book I have that is extremely highlighted.

  5. Solid Foundations 5 Star Review

    Posted by on 10/13/2015

This book is a great way to help someone build a solid foundation of understanding the Bible and the message of salvation. Whether they have no church background or a lifetime of familiarity, it will help them see the big picture of why and how God offers us salvation. It really bridges the gaps of understanding that most people have in these areas.

I'm a Jail Chaplain and the inmates I minister to find this book makes the Bible so much easier to understand. It has been very helpful in my ministry to them. After reading it I knew I had to order copies for their library. They really appreciated it.

  7. A great tool 5 Star Review

    Posted by on 08/20/2014

I have used The Stranger for numerous study groups, from one-on-one to small groups to message series for a church. In every case it has brought clarity about the main message and themes of the Bible to both believers and unbelievers, to those with little church / Bible background and those who have grown up hearing the Bible taught. I have seen the Lord use this to bring several people to a saving knowledge of Jesus! Thanks for all the translations as well - I have been able to make use of both the Spanish and Chinese editions. The variety of formats is an added bonus - e-book, audio, and DVD. The fact that you are in this to get the Good News out does not go unnoticed either!

  8. Great tool for folks who want to see the big picture 5 Star Review

    Posted by on 11/11/2013

We have used this book for years as a gift to unsaved family and friends and to folks who we have been sharing the truth of God's Word with. It is a great witnessing tool and something to give to someone you won't be able to follow up with.
